Choosing the Right Bottle for Engraving
As a calligrapher engraver, I am able to engraving on all sorts of items to elevate your gifting to a new level, especially for birthdays, anniversary, holidays, and everything in between. Popular gifted items that I’ve engraved include:
Fragrance bottles (Perfume, Cologne)
Liquor Bottles
Wine Bottles
My DMs are flooded with the question:
Which bottle/s can and can I NOT get engraved?
So when choosing a bottle to get engraved, these are the things I look for as a calligrapher/engraver:
Finish -
The best types of glass for bottle engravings would be a shiny or glossy finish. This type of finish allows the use of gilding wax to give you a metallic color to your engraving (ex. gold, silver, or copper)

Hers: Burberry Her eau de perfume
Finish cont. -
If your finish is matte (like the green and pink Gucci bottles), the engraving can still be done - however the engraving will likely need to be finished with a nib and metallic ink being hand filled in. This process is more tedious.

2. Texture -
This might go without saying, but I need a smooth surface to engrave on. I cannot engrave on anything beveled or textured, or else the engraving won’t translate.
Too much texture on the glass and you won’t be able to see the actual engraving. Highly recommending contacting the artist directly to confirm.
3. No Carbonated and Sealed bottles -
A popular request is asking if I can engrave on champagne bottles, and unfortunately due to the sealed carbonation. The engraving could compromise the bottle, thus causing the champagne bottle to explode for weeks, even months after the engraving. So for these reasons, I cannot engrave on champagne bottles.
But make sure to check next week’s blog about more on personalizing carbonated and sealed bottles, and what option I can offer instead.
Until next time, pookies ☺︎
